The Major Investing Components
Select I - Investigate investment candidates. For new or beginning investors refer to SmartMoney University (www.smartmoney.com/university) and immediately discover how to get started
N - Never consider a deal that looks too good. Check out the latest scams at the National Fraud Center (www.fraud.org) and the Federal Trade Commission's Web site for investor (www.ftc.gov/bcp/menus/consumer/invest/schemes.shtm)
Analyze V - Value the price of investments using fundamental analysis. Check for easy to understand, step-by-step instructions (www.moneychimp.com/articles/valuation/dcf.htm )
E - Evaluate investment candidates using Internet-based information. Financial portals like Market Watch (www.marketwatch.com) and eliminate the need to go to several places to get comprehensive financial information.
S - Screen investment candidates using online screening tools. Yahoo! Finance has convenient screens for stocks, mutual funds and bonds (screen.yahoo.com/stocks.html)

Monitor L - Letting your portfolio "ride" is a big mistake. Online portfolio management tools like those a Reuters (www.reuters.com) can help you increase the value of your portfolio
I - Investigate your portfolio for investment "overlaps". Using the Morningstar.com (www.morninstar.com) online portfolio x-ray tool check for over-concentrations and avoid investing mistakes.
Sell N - Never expect a stock to go straight up. Gain an understanding of how the economy affect the market and the value of your investments by reading The Wall Street Journal (www.wsj.com)
E - Establish your personal selling rules and reap your rewards. Get a hold of the checklist Kathleen Sindell, Ph.D. has created at www.kathleensindell.com/sellnow.htm and discover how you can make the most of your investments by selling at the right time.
